The ultimate green vehicle can not only run green but also be built green – enter Ajiro. The bamboo, human-powered vehicle actually grows into the bicycle frame shape, no bending or shaping required.
Design student Alexander Vittouris took home the international 2011 James Dyson Award for Ajiro, and you can check out the video of it in action online, too.
Typically, bamboo is molded using heat or steam after it has been harvested, but Ajiro’s bamboo is molded into the frame shape as it grows, thereby streamlining the process and amount of materials needed to build it. Additionally, the bike requires no resources to operate it other than pedaling from the driver.
The benefits of using bamboo for products include sustainability, strength, organic, and positive impacts on both the economy and global warming. Check out Bamboo Fencer’s products and dream up your own green project!
