Inspiring Bamboo Architecture by Vo Trong Nghia
Forget a hammer and nails, just give these architects bamboo, and they’ll give you this . . .
Von Trong Nghia Co., Ltd., an architecture firm based in Hochiminh, Vietnam, constructed this dome edifice purely out of bamboo and natural materials using traditional Vietnamese weaving techniques. The sustainability, strength and versatility of bamboo as a building material has never been more evident than it is in this awe-inspiring structure. Located in the Binh Duong province of Vietnam, the bamboo building is known as the Wind and Water Cafe, an appropriate name for this all-natural mysteriously woven work of art that does not employ a single nail.
The man and visionary behind the design, Von Trong Nghia himself, grew up in a small village that harvested bamboo forests and later studied architecture in Japan, which explains the style of the bamboo design, which mixes traditional African huts, French villas and contemporary Japanese architecture. Von Trong Nghia and his Wind and Water Cafe are truly inspirational as he achieved the utmost sustainability while also achieving the utmost beauty in architectural design.
